Mahadeva

:-p

I spent the entire evening and night of Sunday reading and referencing the mythology of Lord Shiva. The ancient mention of Rudra in Rig Veda is now accepted as being the same as Lord Shiva, yet researchers disagree on the same.

Mythos and legends are so unique and interesting. And when they last for over 3000 years, it becomes timeless and awe-inspiring. What mysteries the cosmos beholds, what was known and is revealed, what do we understand about today's rituals and what are the truths that remain to be discovered by mortal man?

From Photo-a-day-2010

Something for a lifelong meditation. For now, this is a sketch I made of Lord Shiva and photographed it and then changed the sketch with very basic Photoshop skills. Not looking the way I envisioned in my imagination. But well, still when I see it, I behold the vision I saw and sought. It aims to look like a stone age artwork. But I think even the ancient seals discovered in Indus Valley have better drawing skills than me. LOL.

“Where is the gracious hand of thine, O Rudra, thy hand that giveth life and bringeth solace, remover of the woe that Gods have given us? O Strong One, look thou upon me with thy eternal compassion.”
- Rig Veda, Book 2, Hymn 33, verse 7 (Dated to roughly between 1700–1100 BC)

Back to Books

:-p

Strand Book Sale and the crowd on a hot Saturday afternoon at the huge hall where they were on sale. Had mentioned on 19 Jan 2010 post. So went there on Saturday finally.

From Photo-a-day-2010

Strand Bookstores is a landmark in Bombay and probably the oldest bookstore that I know of, servicing readers for generation and more. The late founder T. N. Shanbhag was awarded National honour with the title of "Padmashri" for his "services to the reader". I had met him only once as he stood at his store long back when I was searching for a book - he approached me and greeted me and asked me how he could help me.

From Photo-a-day-2010

These are just at the one hall. The other hall was booked exclusively for their collection of children's books.

From Photo-a-day-2010

I spent, without realizing, a total of 3 and a half hours at the one hall alone. Legs and neck were too tired after standing and looking down at the bargains for so long, so didn't have a look at the children's section (well, for comics and other goodies). Had gone there with a friend from my first employer. Nice to catch up with "friends" who were more than just colleagues.

Weekend Adventure @ Home

LOL

Yes, finally feeling free enough to watch a movie. New Purchases. I am experimenting by trying out non-English language movies. So 2 Hindi and 2 Marathi films in there. "Rocket Singh" was much hyped about an intelligent man who doesn't have fancy degrees yet aims to make it in the corporate world. And of course finally found a lot of "Carry On" titles that I didn't have.

From Photo-a-day-2010

Click to enlarge image and read titles.

It is actually cheaper for me most of the time to buy the VCDs (movie in 2 discs), and DVDs sometimes have discount offers. The only reason I believe piracy could ever be justified is due to the irrational censorship of anything and everything.

The tiled path with an outline of grass. That's brilliant outline of grass for the tiles, especially since they have literally replicated a normal garden on a huge office building's roof.

Spaceship journey to gain knowledge

From Photo-a-day-2010

How about using a spaceship to make your daily journey in quest of knowledge?

The light of knowledge kindled into a cosmic explosion of brilliant radiance?

LOL.

The above image is a photo of the new eco-friendly energy-conserving product - a LED bulb. A bulb that works on both AC and DC power with rechargeable battery. LED bulbs produce light while utilising lesser energy and no wastage of the same.

So you can read your book/ magazine/ newspaper daily without using more energy than required to gain your dose of knowledge.

Uncool in public?

From Photo-a-day-2010

A cool cab with a cool 4 digit number.

LOL. Enough said!.

In Mumbai all taxis are black with yellow in colour as manadatory licensing for taxis. The cool cabs are the air-conditioned taxis and are coloured in a pleasant sky blue colour. Yellow number plates for all cabs and rented cars. White plates for private regular car owners.

Haven @ City

From Photo-a-day-2010

Two crows take refuge in a city garden and are silent observers for a change. Normally, the crows are the most active and noisy birds in the city. Very social creatures and well-fed by various sources not the least their own scavenging.

The tree itself has a bizarre shape and you need to click the image to see its absurd branching.

Mark Twain acknowledges the tenacious crows of Bombay in his book-length travelogue "Following the Equator", and at the linked page of Project Gutenberg you can read it in "CHAPTER XXXVIII".

"Walks. The body advances, while the mind flutters around it like a bird." - Jules Renard

Well, Silly Cow will have to only make guest appearances now. She is camera obsessed and needs to stop demanding footage in every photo. So she will be back in random photos while we get to see some other interesting stuff around.

This photo looks like a painting at the top half because of poor lighting. Yet it seems to capture a brief moment where the cat is alone, sort of contemplative and taking a long walk down the pathway.

The box in which the cards are stored (seen there) has the image of Eiffel Tower embossed on top left side and is strangely labelled by the printer agency as "Tower 100" (so stores 100 cards).
